Brighton have picked up where they left off last season and they currently sit second, right on the tail of the league leaders Newcastle.

The Seagulls were unfortunate not to go up automatically last season, but they were just edged out by Burnley and Middlesbrough, which left them to fight it out in the play-offs.

Brighton were again narrowly beaten in the play-offs, losing over two legs against last season's surprise package, Sheffield Wednesday, and leaving Seagulls fans heartbroken to see their team fall so close to the finishing line twice.

They have regrouped and gone again this year though and they look even stronger than last season.

Hughton's business in summer is one huge reason they are in such a good position.

Signing Glenn Murray was shrewd and he has so far proved to be a great addition for them, scoring some key goals.

They also managed to keep hold of their key players; rebuffing several bids for the likes of Dale Stephens and Lewis Dunk.

If Chris Hughton could get more from these 2 players, Brighton could be even better...

Jiri Skalak

Skalak was a huge part of Brighton's success at the back end of last season but this season, he has struggled to rediscover that form and he has lost his place in the starting eleven to Jamie Murphy.

There is no doubting Skalak's ability; technically, he is one of the best players in the Championship and if he could find his feet again, he would be a big player for The Seagulls.

He also provides Brighton with a threat from his dead ball set pieces.

Skalak provides a wicked ball into the box and isn't shy when shooting from free kicks either - a huge goal threat.

Sam Baldock

Baldock has been playing up front in a two for Brighton this season alongside Glenn Murray.

Baldock has five goals and four assists to his name so far, but he is capable of scoring even more goals.

If Baldock could get on the scoresheet more often then Brighton could have a prolific partnership on their hands, which would put them in a great position to go up.

If Baldock doesn't offer more to the team, The Seagulls have their top goalscorer from last season, Tomer Hemed, sitting on the bench, who is more than capable of stepping up to the plate.
