Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has cooled down speculation surrounding a move for Aston Villa talisman Jack Grealish, in quotes taken by football.london.

The 23-year-old had been linked with a big-money move to the Premier League club throughout the summer, before signing a bumper new deal at Villa Park to keep him at the club until 2023.

And Spurs boss Pochettino has recently played down a move for Grealish in January, after insisting that he doesn't "have enough space" for the playmaker to fit into.

"Look, I think there were plenty of players linked with Tottenham, not only last summer but in the previous season - you know it's difficult to talk about rumours, about names.

"It's impossible to sign players if we don't have space - we don't have enough space at the moment, I think it makes no sense now to talk about signing players."

Grealish has flourished under Villa boss Dean Smith this season, netting twice and producing four assists as well as being a catalyst for Villa going forward.

The playmaker, who joined the club at the age of 6-years-old, has made over 120 appearances for Villa since coming through the youth ranks.

The Verdict

This is great news for Villa - Grealish is an extremely important player for the club and it would have been tremendously hard to replace him if he left.

Spurs would have had to pay big bucks for him, but I'm sure that Villa would rather have Grealish than £20million or so - who knows, in a few years, he could be worth double that.
