Ipswich Town have been hit with the hardest of blows, with ITV reporting that the former Manchester City trainee Emyr Huws will be out for the rest of the season following surgery on a knee injury suffered in the 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough at the weekend.

The Welsh international had just returned from an Achilles problem that had ruled him out for the majority of the first half of the campaign, but will now be sidelined until at least the end of the season following a cartilage tear.

The 24-year-old joined the Tractor Boys on a permanent deal in the summer following an impressive loan spell last season, but will be unavailable to manager Mick McCarthy for the foreseeable future.

The news will come as a devastating blow to all involved with the Suffolk-based side, who harbour hopes of a playoff appearance this season.
