Reading manager Jaap Stam is set to receive a boost today ahead of his side's trip to in-form Sheffield United, with the news that striker Yann Kermorgant could be back in contention at Bramall Lane.

In a report by the Sun, Saturday 21st October print edition, the Dutch manager has revealed that his big striker is close to a return, having returned to training and seemingly getting over the injury which has kept him out of the start of the season.

A groin operation has sidelined the striker, who scored 19 goals last season, and his return for the Royals could represent a huge boost for the club who have been inconsistent in the opening three months of the Championship season.

However, a win last time out at Leeds United could give Stam and his team the platrform to head to Bramall Lane today confident of taking something from Chris Wilder's side, who have been the surprise package so far this season.

Kermorgant's return will no doubt represent a further boost for Stam, who will be hoping the big striker can use his size and touch to bring others into play and cause trouble among the Blades' back line if he is declared fit enough to start.

The Verdict

Kermorgant is clearly an integral part of Stam's plans, despite his age, and he needs him back. If he can return today and get back among the goals, then we should begin to see Reading climb the table and look something like the force we witnessed last campaign.
