The 29-year-old defender is happy with how he has made the transition to English football and is eager to assess how Brighton can improve their game as they look to maintain their form.

The German, starting all of Brighton's last five games, has become a first-team regular at the Sky Bet Championship table toppers and is looking to improve as the season progresses.

Speaking about Brighton's win against Hull City, he commented: "We had a good game as a team, together. The most important thing is that myself and the back four do our jobs. We kept a clean sheet and it's good to see that we can just score one goal and still get the win. That is very important and creates a good mentality."

The physical defender is also finding help from Brighton skipper Gordon Greer when it comes to settling into the club.

He added: "Gordon Greer is an important player for us as the skipper and he has helped me a lot. I am adapting more and more to the way we want to play. He speaks a lot to me, but I try to take my responsibility for the team and it is getting better and better.

"The biggest difference here is the physicality of the game. You have to work very hard until the 90th or 95th minute.

"Games are very tough and tight at the end and you have to work very hard in the duels with other players. I am now adapting to it and see how it works."

The Sky Bet Championship is certainly a tough league, particularly for foreign players who aren't used to the physicality of the games.

And the defender holds no doubts about the threat posed by Rotherham United despite the Yorkshire clubs poor start to the season and their uncertainty over manager Steve Evans.

He said: "We won't underestimate them and know it's going to be a tough game.

"We know we are favourites, but it will be hard work for us. All six games were tight and this will be a tight match as well.

"Hopefully there will be matches where we can kill the opponents off much earlier in the game. We have a lot of chances in the game to score more goals and we can work on that.

"But if we score just one goal and work as a team to keep a clean sheet, then that is different to a lot of teams right now in the league and it could be a big plus for us.

"I'm feeling very good now. I've settled in well, found an apartment and my family is here, so everything is perfect right now."

The defender will be looking to continue his form as Brighton face Rotherham United tonight at the Amex Stadium, despite trepidation of his disciplinary record.

However, Brighton will go into the game as favourites and will be looking to extend their stay at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table.
