Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan isn't sure whether West Ham United will look to recall Mipo Odubeko from his loan spell in the January transfer window.

West Ham opted to loan Odubeko to Huddersfield late in the summer transfer window, agreeing a season-long loan deal.

That agreement has a break clause in January 2022, which would allow either club to terminate the deal if they wished to do so.

So far, Odubeko has been limited to four cameo appearances for Huddersfield, totalling little over an hour of football.

When quizzed on whether or not that could lead to West Ham recalling the teenager in January, Corberan responded: “Being honest, I don’t know.

“It’s not going to depend on me. What I’d like is to have him here in the club."

Corberan stated that whilst he understands that people will ask why a player of Odubeko's talent isn't getting minutes, he feels the overall development of the striker in a first-team environment is crucial.

He continued: “It’s normal that people are asking why he’s not getting on the pitch. But our commitment with any player we are working with is to develop them because, for me, it doesn’t make sense to give minutes for the sake of giving minutes. It’s important to see the development of the player.

“We have a lot of commitment. When West Ham give us one player, our highest commitment is with that one player to develop him. That is exactly what the club wants.

“I don’t know (about the recall) because that doesn’t depend on me. I don’t know if West Ham are happy seeing the progress in the football behaviours of the player or just looking to see if the player is playing minutes.”

The 19-year-old finds himself behind Danny Ward and Fraizer Campbell in the pecking order right now, with that senior pair involved in the squad at Bournemouth last weekend as Huddersfield fell to a 3-0 defeat.

In the week that followed, Odubeko got some minutes for the B Team, scoring against a young Walsall side in a convincing 7-0 victory for the young Terriers.

Odubeko is pushing for a return to the senior squad this weekend when Huddersfield host Millwall.
