Huddersfield Town are being worked hard by Carlos Corberan over pre-season as they aim to hit the ground running when the Championship season kicks off next month.

Corberan has been boosted by the arrival of six new first team signings already, with Town looking to make their transition as smooth as possible.

It's hard to imagine that Huddersfield's recruitment will end there, but deals have slowed down significantly on the back of pre-season starting.

Still, there's a couple of pieces of speculation bubbling away in the background at the John Smith's Stadium.

We touch on them here...

Lewis O'Brien

O'Brien is a player that Corberan is going to want to retain over the course of the summer transfer window. It is, though, unlikely that Huddersfield will go the whole summer without genuine interest in the midfielder.

One club linked already this window - albeit loosely - is Leeds United.

Alan Nixon has provided an update with regard to Leeds' stance on the 22-year-old, claiming that whilst there's interest from Elland Road, Marcelo Bielsa has his eyes on a different target, with O'Brien a secondary option.

Jon Russell

Huddersfield have confirmed the arrival of Russell, who initially links up with the B Team.

The 20-year-old midfielder is formerly of Chelsea, and has signed a two-year deal at the John Smith's Stadium, with the option of extending that into a third season.

Russell made 25 League One appearances for Accrington Stanley last season, scoring twice.

Michael Hefele

Hefele is a free agent this summer having left Nottingham Forest and was pictured alongside Leigh Bromby during Town's pre-season friendly with Southport over the weekend.

The centre-back, 30, is a legend at the John Smith's Stadium following his part in Huddersfield's promotion to the Premier League in 2017, with fans obviously delighted seeing him watching on.

However, Yorkshire Live claim that despite his presence with Bromby and Phil Hodgkinson, Huddersfield are not considering the German for a playing role heading into 2021/22.

Hefele has had serious injury problems over the last couple of seasons and hasn't played a competitive fixture in over two years.
