Fenerbahce are monitoring the progress of Huddersfield Town defender Florent Hadergjonaj ahead of a potential move, a report from a print edition of Turkish newspaper Sabah has claimed.

The Turkish giants are apparently considering adding a new right-back to their squad when the transfer window re-opens, and Hadergjonaj appears to have emerged as a potential target.

According to the latest reports, Fenerbahce sent scouts to watch Hadergjonaj play for Kosovo against Montenegro during the most recent international break, with the 25-year-old playing the 90 minutes of a 2-0 win that keeps his side's hopes of qualification for Euro 2020 alive.

One of the scorers for Kosovo in that match, Vedat Muriqi, currently plays for Fenerbahce, and it is thought that the Turkish club could look to use that connection to boost their chances of bringing the full-back to Istanbul.

Hadergjonaj initially joined Huddersfield on-loan from German side Ingolstadt in August 2017, before making his move permanent the following summer.

So far this season, Hadergjonaj has made eight league appearances for Huddersfield, although he has lost in place in the starting lineup to new arrival Danny Simpson for the last three games before the October international break.

There are currently two years remaining on Hadergjonaj's contract at the John Smith's Stadium, although the club do have the option to extend that deal by a further year.

The Verdict

I think Huddersfield are in quite a strong position here.

Given the length of time there is remaining on Hadergjonaj's contract with the club, it isn't really as if they need to sell him anytime soon in order to secure some form of funds for the defender.

Add to that the fact that Danny Simpson has already settled in well into that right-back spot, and it does seem as Hadergjonaj will not be quite as big a miss as may have otherwise been the case.

Given he does seem to have lost his spot to Simpson in the past few games, I do wonder whether this could be a move that would tempt Hadergjonaj, particularly considering it could give him the opportunity to compete for silverware with one of Turkey's biggest clubs.
