Florent Hadergjonaj has been limited to just four minutes over Huddersfield Town's unbeaten run after losing his right-back place to former Leicester City man Danny Simpson.

Simpson, who arrived at Town in late September, has started Town's last five games in which the Terriers have yielded two wins and three draws, turning around their early season form.

Florent Hadergjonaj had started all eight of Town's matches prior to Simpson's arrival and has acknowledged he is not happy, but the competition at the club can only be a good thing.

The Kosovo international, who has made over 50 appearances for the Terriers opened up to the Huddersfield Examiner on Friday about his personal situation at the club.

Since the appointment of Danny Cowley, Town have seen their form dramatically improve, increasing their points total from one to ten, but Hadergjonaj has only started two matches under the former Lincoln man.

Speaking to the Examiner, Hadergjonaj said: “The manager has spoken with me, it’s not an easy situation for me, for sure, I am not happy, I want to play, this is normal for a professional football player, you want to play every game. But at the moment, that’s the situation and we will see later on.”

Hadergjonaj, however suggests competition can only be a good thing for the Terriers: "We want to make the life of the manager very hard so he has to think about who he has to pick on the weekend. Competition is here and it is very good and at the end the manager decides."

Despite being linked with a move to Turkish club Fenerbache last week, the right-back has said he will work hard to get back into the Town starting XI.

Speaking of his aim, he added: “I want to come back as soon as possible in the starting 11, this is my aim. I train hard and I want to show the manager that I am ready. In training games and when I come in for games I want to help the team as well.”

The Verdict

Its clear Florent Hadergjonaj is keen to stay in West Yorkshire and fight for his place.

After starting the first eight games of Town's seasons he may rightfully so feel a little unlucky with the situation he now finds himself in.

He is clearly a good player at this level and won Player's Young Player of the Year and Presidents Prize at the end of the 2017-2018 season.

Although blessed with a wealth of experience, Danny Simpson is 32 and it wouldn't be a surprise if the former Leicester man was to miss some games this season.

Hadergjonaj would ultimately fill back in for Simpson and if he puts in stable performances, then there is no reason why he couldn't secure another run in the team.
