It was confirmed today by David Wagner in Huddersfield Town's pre-match press conference that Emyr Huws will be out for up to four weeks with an ankle injury.

The injury was picked up in the second half of Huddersfield's 3-2 defeat to Cardiff City.

This is a heavy blow for the Terriers prior to the journey to Deepdale on Saturday, as Emyr Huws has been instrumental to Huddersfield Town's rise up the table.

Huws has five goals in twenty appearances since his loan move to the West Yorkshire club from Wigan Athletic, and scored for Huddersfield directly from a corner against Preston in the return fixture.

Huws' consistent performances for the Terriers have seen him become a regular member of the Wales squad and as recently as early November, Huws emphatically scored his first goal for the national side in a friendly against Holland.

This latest setback could hinder his chances of going to the European Championships in the summer.

For Huddersfield, David Wagner will now have to find a replacement for Huws for the upcoming month.

Wagner could play both Jonathan Hogg and Dean Whitehead as a defensive midfield duo however the pair have given an imbalanced feel to the side as both players are too similar to play together.

Wagner may choose to play either Jamie Paterson in the deeper role or Duane Holmes, both have filled in for Huws earlier on in the season but both players don't share the same all-round ability as Huws does as both Paterson and Holme are primarily attacking midfielders and their lack of defensive capabilities may be found out.

The other alternative for David Wagner is Phillip Billing, the young Dane has made five appearances for the Terriers and impressed earlier on in the season before picking up an injury in the 3-0 defeat to local rivals, Leeds United.

Phillip Billing provides the physicality that may prove most useful against a strong resilient Preston side. Billing displayed his talent when he impressed in the Under-21 Premier League Cup tie which saw Huddersfield defeat the reigning champions, Southampton at St Mary's.
