Huddersfield Town loanee Andy King has revealed his admiration for his temporary Terriers teammate Emile Smith Rowe, following the youngster's recent eye-catching performances for Danny Cowley's side.

Both King and Smith Rowe joined Huddersfield on loan until the end of the season in the January transfer window, making the move to the John Smith's Stadium from Leicester and Arsenal respectively.

Since that move, young Gunners prospect Smith Rowe has been in impressive form for the Terriers, making seven appearances for the Championship relegation battlers, scoring one goal and assisting another, while his all-round efforts have also earned him plenty of praise.

That is something that does not appear to have gone unnoticed by King, and speaking to The Examiner about Smith Rowe, midfielder said: "It's easy to be impressed with the talent you see in Emile. The ball is comfortable for him. You get players like that where they have natural ability.

"Some players have to rely on work rate or size and strength. Others are just natural with the ball and I think we see that with Emile."

Indeed, while he is at Huddersfield for now, it seems King, who was part of Leicester's Premier League title-winning squad of 2015/16, is predicting a bright future at the Emirates for Smith Rowe, as he continued: "If you are at Arsenal at his sort of age, you are going to have that.

"Anyone who hasn't got that at a club like Arsenal has probably been weeded out by this time."

That future at Arsenal for Smith Rowe is something King also believes will be helped by the regular game time the 19-year-old is now enjoying at Huddersfield, as he added: "He has made a bit of an impression at Arsenal, playing in some of the Europa League games and I think it's important for any player at that age to try and get regular men's football, rather than playing Under 23s.

"I'm sure he's at the level where, no disrespect to Under 23s football, it's probably a bit easy for him.

"So I think it's important he's come and got some men's football and I think he's shown that he's really capable of playing, especially at this level and I'm sure Arsenal are hoping he will play higher in their first team."

Prior to his temporary move to Huddersfield, Smith Rowe had made a total of 12 competitive appearances for Arsenal, scoring three goals, while he also played three times for Leipzig during a loan spell in Germany last season.

The Verdict

These comments certainly ought to be encouraging for those at Arsenal.

Having been successful up and down the divisions throughout his career with Leicester, King is going to know a good player when he sees one, so Smith Rowe himself should take heart from the Welshman's claims here.

Indeed, the regular football Smith Rowe is now being given will help him as well, since it should force his body to adapt to the physicalities of playing football on a week in week out basis.

Add to that the fact that Huddersfield's place in a relegation battle means he is getting used to playing games under pressure, and it appears as though this could be a useful move all round for the young Arsenal midfielder.
