Huddersfield Town have confirmed that central midfielder Reece Brown has signed for Peterborough United on-loan for the rest of the season.

The Terriers have made their first piece of January business as they allow summer singing Reece Brown to join Peterborough until the end of the season.

Brown joined in the summer from Forest Green having spent two years at the New Lawn. Brown came through Birmingham City’s academy and made 16 appearances for the club, a handful of loan spells followed before he settled at Forest Green, making 78 appearances and impressing in his time there, before making the move to the John Smith’s Stadium under then-manager Jan Siewert.

His time at Huddersfield has been tough so far, by being limited to just one start for the club which came against Lincoln City in the EFL Cup earlier in the season.

Brown joins the Posh who are currently pushing for promotion to the Championship under Darren Ferguson as they sit sixth in League One and five points behind the top two. As an attacking midfielder, Ferguson is adding even more firepower to the team that boasts the best goalscoring record in the division.

Speaking to the club’s official site after the move was confirmed, manager Danny Cowley had this to say on Brown: “Reece is a technical footballer who did really well in Sky Bet League 2; he created and scored a lot of goals at that level.

“This is a good opportunity for him to go out and play games at the next level in Sky Bet League 1 to further his development.”

Can you remember the lineup from Huddersfield's 2017 play-off triumph?

The Verdict

This is a good move all-round for all parties as it’s clear that Brown is yet to prove he is ready for Championship football after shining in League Two last season, so the logical step like Cowley outlines is to prove himself in League One with Peterborough.

The team he arrives at is very strong in his position and he might not walk right into their lineup having barely played over the past five months. However, this loan away from Huddersfield could be just what he needs to prove to Cowley that he has a future in the Championship.
