Huddersfield Town are reportedly interested in signing Charlton Athletic striker Karlan Grant this month, according to Alan Nixon of the Sun

The relegation-threatened Premier League side are in desperate need of more firepower but will have to see off competition from Championship sides Brentford and Millwall if they are to land him.

Taking to Twitter, Nixon wrote: "HUDDERSFIELD. Very keen on speedy striker Karlan Grant at CHARLTON. Ideal for future in many ways. BRENTFORD also in and MILLWALL hanging around too."

The 21-year-old has been in excellent form this season for Lee Bowyer's side, scoring 14 goals and assisting five more in 27 League One appearances.

He is a product of the notoriously fruitful Charlton academy that has produced the likes of Joe Gomez and Ademola Lookman in recent seasons.

The Terriers are currently rooted to the foot of the Premier League table with Steve Mounie scoring the only goal by a forward this season.

Centre-back Zanka is the club's top-scorer with three goals so it is no surprise to see them on the hunt for a marksman.

The verdict

As good a signing as this would be, it would also be an admission of relegation in my opinion.

Grant is obviously a very exciting talent, but is he ready to score consistently in the top-flight? I don't think so.

He would be an excellent investment, however, and with his contract set to run out in the summer could be brought in on the cheap.
