Huddersfield are interested in making Cuco Ziganda their new manager, according to Spanish outlet AS.

The Spaniard managed has Athletic Bilbao as well as Osasuna prior to that in his career so far, so would arrive in West Yorkshire with a significant reputation, although he is untested in English football.

AS report that Aitor Karanka is also on Town's radar, and the former Nottingham Forest boss has admitted he wants the job.

Ziganda, however, has been living in England over the last few months with a view to join an English club, so will likely do all he can to impress those at the club.

He has a promotion on his CV during his spell managing Athletic Bilbao's second team, and also took Osasuna to the semi-final of the Europa League in 2007, a remarkable achievement considering it was the furthest stage the club had ever made in European competition.

Caretaker boss Mark Hudson has also expressed his interest in the job, and with results not yet picking up the board may have to make a swift decision.

The Verdict

Whilst Ziganda's apparent enthusiasm for the job is positive to see, it does not guarantee success and due to his lack of experience in England he would be a risky appointment.

Huddersfield's previous two appointments have been of a similar nature, one worked out superbly whilst the other was the total opposite, but given the last year and their current situation they really need to start picking up points.

Ziganda has had success in his career but not for some time, and if there is a language barrier or worries about his knowledge of English football and Championship players then Town would probably be best suited to going for a more tried and tested approach.
