Huddersfield Town have announced that Rajiv van La Parra has left the club to join Serbian side, Red Star Belgrade for an undisclosed fee.

The winger made 101 appearances in total for Huddersfield, after competing a permanent move from Wolves in 2016.

His departure will come as a surprise, especially given that he played in their 2-1 defeat to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

Huddersfield's Chairman Phil Hodgkinson revealed that van La Parra didn't want to play for the Terriers anymore and wanted to pursue a move away from the club.

"We received the offer for Rajiv during the Luton Town game and both him and his representatives made it very clear that he didn’t want to be a Huddersfield Town player anymore.

"The Club always has to come first and it’s important that the players in our squad are fully committed to the cause. I want players who want to play for this Football Club and its fantastic supporters; they deserve that.

"The offer meets our valuation and the player gets the move he was pushing for."

Huddersfield are still without a win in all competitions this season, and have lost their last six games in a row, which will have supporters fearing a second successive relegation this term.

They are next in action after the international break, when they take on Sheffield Wednesday, in what will be a tough test for the Terriers.

The Verdict:

It seems as though Huddersfield had no option but to move him on.

Van La Parra has been an important player for the Terriers over the years, but if he doesn't want to play his part in helping them improve their recent form, then the club made the right call in accepting the offer for him.

You need players that are committed and if he isn't, then the sooner he was out the exit door, the better.
