Abdelhamid Sabiri has left Huddersfield Town after his contract with the Championship side was terminated by mutual consent.

The former Nurnberg man has struggled to make an impact since arriving in England and has departed having made just seven league appearances in over two years.

Five of those came in the 2017/18 campaign, whilst he featured twice as they were relegated from the Premier League in the previous campaign and he hasn't made the matchday squad this term.

His last involvement for the club came against Bournemouth in December 2018 and the 22-year-old hasn't endeared himself to those at the club since then, with question marks over his attitude and professionalism.

Therefore, a move always seemed inevitable but the Terriers confirmed on their official site this afternoon that Sabiri has departed after an agreement was reached to terminate his deal, which was set to expire at the end of this season.

With the window shut for Championship clubs, Huddersfield would have to bring in a free agent if they want to add to their squad following Sabiri's exit.

The Verdict

Huddersfield fans won't be too concerned by this as Sabiri has been nowhere near the team for a long time now and he didn't exactly make a great impression when he was involved.

He had shown flashes when he arrived to suggest he may do well but he hasn't kicked on from that and didn't always apply himself properly.

So, this is a move that makes sense for all parties and you would expect the former Germany U21 international to find his next club abroad.
