Huddersfield Town have completed the last-minute signing of Chelsea midfielder Trevoh Chalobah on a season-long loan, the club confirmed on their official website.

The 20-year-old spent the entirety of last season on loan at Ipswich Town and impressed during his spell despite the Tractor Boys' emphatic relegation to League One.

He made 43 appearances in total in a variety of positions, scoring two goals and assisting one more, and is expected to go straight into Jan Siewert's side to face Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

Chalobah becomes the club's seventh signing of the summer, following Isaac Mbenza, Herbert Bockhorn, Reece Brown, Tommy Elphick, Josh Koroma, Kamil Grabara into the John Smiths Stadium.

It is an announcement that follows the news that star midfielder Aaron Mooy would be joining Brighton and Hove Albion on a seaosn-long loan - after he signed a new three-year deal at the club.

The Terriers season did not get off to the best start on Monday as they were comfortably beaten 2-1 by Derby County on their on patch so Siewert will be eager to see a quick, post-transfer window response from his side.

The verdict

I think this is actually a pretty good signing for Huddersfield.

Although in the context of the Mooy news you can understand the fan frustration surrounding it. Chalobah looked good for Ipswich last season but not good enough to fill the void that Mooy will leave.

You get the feeling that the Terriers may well regret not selling the Australian earlier in the window and leaving themselves no time to replace him.
