Huddersfield Town have agreed a deal to sign former Leicester City defender Danny Simspon on a deal until the end of the season, according to The Sun.

Simpson is set to become Danny Cowley's first signing at the John Smith's Stadium, as he looks to bolster Huddersfield's defensive line following their miserable start to the Championship season.

The Terriers are rock-bottom of the second-tier table having failed to win a match so far this season, and it is understood Cowley has turned to Simpson to bring more experience to the squad at this testing time.

The 32-year-old earned promotion from the Championship with former clubs Newcastle and QPR before moving to Leicester in 2014, where he formed part of the Foxes' Premier League-winning squad in the 2015/16 season.

Simpson was released by Leicester at the end of last season and had been training with West Bromwich Albion to help keep up his fitness levels, but Huddersfield are now reportedly set to announce his arrival in West Yorkshire.

The Verdict

This would certainly be a step in the right direction following Huddersfield's poor start to the season, as Simpson can provide the experience and Championship know-how to boost the side.

Florent Hadergjonaj has somewhat struggled in the right-back berth so far this season, and Simpson would offer a much more reliable presence for the season ahead.

It is also true that the first step for the Terriers to end their poor form is to solidify the defensive unit, and the arrival of Simpson would help ensure this given the career he has had in English football.

Huddersfield fans can feel encouraged by the 32-year-old's arrival as it shows the Cowleys are being proactive in improving the squad, while it also displays the pull factor that the the managerial duo have brought to the club.
