Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell says a deal to sign left back Jason Davidson took 'a lot of hard work'.

Chris Powell is happy with the signing of Davidson

The former West Bromwich Albion left-back only signed for the club last summer from Dutch side Heracles for an undisclosed fee, but never established himself at the Hawthorns, despite impressing for Australia in the World Cup.

Davidson only ever made five appearances at the club, and was linked with a loan switch to Reading on the back end of 2014, but that was completely dismissed by then manager Alan Irvine.

His contract was cancelled at the end of last season.

Chris Powell told the Huddersfield Examiner: “Recruiting a top-quality left back was a key priority in this transfer window and we believe we have achieved this in signing Jason.

“The club’s scouting team started tracking him a full 18 months ago during his time in Holland and our team has watched him regularly ever since for Heracles and West Brom as well as the Australia national team.

“We tried to recruit him in March, but could not reach a deal.

“He possesses the attributes that we were looking for in a left-back, he is an athletic player who has attacking ability, but most importantly he is a good defender.

“As a left-back in my playing days, I believe the latter is the strongest quality required.”

Huddersfield were in desperate need of a left back this summer and took QPR left back Jack Robinson on loan last year to fill the void.
