Huddersfield Town battling Tottenham and West Ham United for defender

Sky Bet Championship side Huddersfield Town are scouting highly-rated Accrington Stanley defender Ryan Sweeney, according to the Daily Mirror via the Huddersfield Examiner

The 18-year-old defender has attracted a lot of suitors since he made his debut for AFC Wimbledon with a host of Premier League sides such as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United tracking him.

As well as a number of Championships sides such as Fulham, Brighton and Hove Albion monitoring him, including Huddersfield Town.

Although Sweeney has only featured for Stanley three times, he has been called up to the Republic of Ireland under-18 side, and if he continues to improve then he will have a growing list of suitors.

With David Wagner having an excellent reputation of developing young players and Huddersfield seemingly on the up, Sweeney may be enticed by the prospect of working with Wagner.

At the same time, Sweeney may be enticed by the opportunity to break into Huddersfield’s first team.

Kyle Dempsey and Joe Lolley are two relatively recent Huddersfield signings which have both broken through having been bought from lower league opposition.

Huddersfield fans, what do you think of the news? Do you think Sweeney could be a good signing? Where would he fit into the Huddersfield set up? Let us hear your thoughts and opinion in the comment section below!
