Huddersfield Town defender Erik Durm has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent deal, the Bundesliga side has confirmed.

Durm has signed a four-year deal with the German side after spending just one season with the Terriers, where he made a total of 30 appearances.

The versatile 27-year-old operated in various positions on the left and right flanks after joining David Wagner's side from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

The German international signed a one-year contract with the option to extend for a further year, but he has opted to leave the club following Huddersfield's relegation to the Championship.

Following the announcement, Frankfurt head coach Adi Hutter has spoken out on the move by praising the qualities Durm will add to the side.

"In Erik Durm we've signed a good player who can play on both flanks. He's a good lad and will improve our tactical flexibility," he told the club's Twitter account.

The Verdict

It is no surprise to see Huddersfield lose some of their key names following relegation, especially seeing as Durm was viewed as a coup even when the Terriers were a Premier League side.

Tthis news will not come as a huge blow to Terriers fans, seeing as Durm was not tied to a contract at the John Smith's Stadium following the conclusion of last season.

Huddersfield should now be focused on making sensible Championship-level additions to the squad, adding to the likes of Reece Brown and Tommy Elphick who have already signed.

Durm's departure should not really hinder Jan Siewert's pre-season preparations in any way, as it seemed inevitable he would depart this summer.
