Huddersfield Town have announced that goalkeeper Ryan Schofield has joined Scottish Premier League side Livingston on loan, subject to international clearance.

The 20-year-old is now expected to enjoy regular game time north of the border, with the goalkeeper set to remain with Livingston until the end of the season.

Schofield made his debut for the Terriers earlier this season in a 1-0 defeat to Lincoln City in the first round of the Carabao Cup, before keeping a clean sheet in a goalless draw with Middlesbrough in what is so far his only Championship appearance back in October.

There are just six months remaining on Schofield's current contract at the John Smith's Stadium, which is set to expire at the end of this season.

Livingston are currently fifth in the Scottish top-flight, although they are 11 point off fourth-placed Aberdeen, and just eight clear of the the relegation play-off spot, meaning a push for a Europa League place looks unlikely this season.

The Verdict

This looks like a very good move for Schofield.

The young goalkeeper has already shown plenty of potential during his handful of appearances for Huddersfield so far, and that ability is something he is likely to develop even further with the more regular game time he ought to enjoy during his time at Livingston.

Indeed, with his contract set to expire at the end of campaign, this should also be a decent chance for him to impress enough to potentially earn a new deal beyond this summer, be that with the Terriers or another team elsewhere.
