Besiktas are interested in signing Huddersfield Town striker Steve Mounie on loan, Turkish outlet TRT Sport have reported.

Mounie joined Huddersfield from French side Montpellier in the summer of 2017 for a reported £11.44million, with the striker scoring nine times in 31 appearances in all competitions during his debut campaign with the club.

Last season was a more challenging one however, with Mounie finding the net just twice throughout the course of the year, as the Terriers suffered relegation from the Premier League, having won just three games across the campaign.

Now it seems as though Mounie could be set to leave the John Smith's Stadium for the time being, with Besiktas chairman Fikret Orman reportedly in talks with both the club and player about a possible loan move for the Benin international.

Mounie has made just a single league appearance for Huddersfield this season, coming off the bench 83 minutes into his side's 2-1 defeat to Fulham on Friday night.

There are currently two years remaining on Mounie's contract with Huddersfield, securing his future with the club until the summer of 2021.

The Verdict

This may not be a bad move for Mounie.

For all their troubles so far this season, it does seem as though Huddersfield have found themselves a very reliable striker in Karlan Grant, and with the likes of Collin Quaner, Elias Kachunga and new signing Fraizer Campbell all also on the books at the club, it does seem as though they still have plenty of options even if Mounie does move on.

It seems therefore that it could be good for Mounie to move onto pastures new in search of more regular football, particularly after his own troubles in front of goal last season.

Indeed, with Besiktas continuing to push for silverware in Turkey, this could be just what Mounie needs to rediscover his winning mentality, considering Huddersfield have taken three points on just four occasions in their last 51 league games.
