Huddersfield man heading closer to exit door

Published

on

Mathias Jorgensen looks set to leave Huddersfield this summer, and according to journalist Onur Tugrul via Sport Witness, Fenerbahce and Basaksehir are the latest clubs to take an interest.

Tugrul suggests the clubs have met with Jorgensen’s agent Brian Steen Nielsen to sound out a potential move for the Danish international.

The defender’s future at Huddersfield looks in doubt and he has expressed his desire to resolve his situation and move away from the club – after falling out of Jan Siewart’s plans last season.

Celtic were believed to be the frontrunners in the bid to sign him, but have yet to submit an offer to either Huddersfield or the player.

That means there is an opportunity for the Turkish clubs to jump ahead of Celtic and if they meet a reported £5m asking price then he could soon make the switch.

He could be the ideal replacement for the departing Martin Skrtel at Fenerbahce, and the player would likely jump at the opportunity to play European football.

The Verdict

Jorgensen is a very good player and he is likely to attract interest from several suitors across Europe. Talks are in the early stages but it would be a good move for the player and a club of Fenerbahce’s size should be willing to pay £5m, which is a very good price for a player of Jorgensen’s quality.

It is good news for Huddersfield as Jorgensen staying risks create disharmony between him and the manager and the rest of the squad. The funds from the transfer would allow them to strengthen at the back and in other areas too, so the sooner he leaves the better.
