Huddersfield Town are in talks with Lee Nicholls as they look to bring the keeper in on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old is currently with MK Dons, but with his deal set to expire in the summer, he is free to talk to clubs about a potential switch.

And, it appears as though a move to the Terriers is on the cards, with the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (12:37) revealing that an agreement with the stopper 'is said to be close'.

After a disappointing campaign, that saw Carlos Corberan's side finish 20th in the table, the Yorkshire outfit are desperate for reinforcements.

Jordan Rhodes has already signed up for next season and bringing in a new keeper is a priority for Huddersfield as they lack genuine competition for number one Ryan Schofield.

If they do conclude a deal for Nicholls, the Championship side will be getting a keeper who has plenty of experience in the Football League, as he has previously played for Northampton, Wigan and Bristol Rovers among others.

Nicholls was predominantly a backup option for Russell Martin this season.

The verdict

It's clear to most Huddersfield fans that a new keeper is needed, and whilst Nicholls won't be the most glamorous signing, he will provide competition for Schofield.

In an ideal world, they would get someone who has proven themselves at Championship level, but on a free transfer this seems like a sensible bit of business.

This update suggests a deal is close, and it could be one of many new faces to arrive at Huddersfield this summer.
