While international breaks are never exactly popular with football fans of any persuasion, it could be argued that none will have been more disappointed by the arrival of the recent October international break than followers of Huddersfield Town.

Having been without a win in their first ten games in all competitions at the start of the current campaign, the Terriers then ended the last round of fixtures with back to back wins over Stoke and Hull, as they suddenly started to show signs of being a force to be reckoned with once more under newly appointed manager Danny Cowley.

It will not just have been the end to the enjoyment of that success brought about by the international break however, that will have been a concern for the Huddersfield faithful.

Before that win over Stoke at the start of October, the Terriers had taken just four wins in their last 57 league games, dating back to the latter end of the 2017/18 campaign, when Huddersfield had actually survived in their debut season in the Premier League.

Given that run however, there can be no doubt that Huddersfield fans will know more than most just how difficult it can be to develop an all-important winning mentality when out of form, meaning that the potential loss of momentum that may have been brought about by the international break will not have helped here.

With players heading off to represent their countries and others perhaps receiving treatment on knocks already picked up this season, even continuing to maintain that work rate and adaptation to the new tactics introduced by the Cowley's may not have been easy.

That therefore, will be a concern for Huddersfield when they look to pick up where they left off on Saturday, and with the Terriers having only pulled themselves out of the relegation zone with that final win before the break, they will be well aware of what may well be at stake when they return to action, should they hit another stumbling block this weekend.

But despite all that, Huddersfield may well be able to take some confidence that they will in fact continue that winning run on Saturday, thanks to the identity of their opponents.

While Huddersfield went into the international break on something of a high following those back to back wins, Blackburn Rovers - who host the Terriers at Ewood Park on Saturday - go into the game having taken just a single point from their last three games, and with a defence missing two key players following long-term injuries to centre back Darragh Lenihan and left-back Greg Cunningham in the defeat at QPR immediately before the break.

Given Huddersfield are coming into this having put three past Hull last time out, and with Karlan Grant taking to the Championship with ease leading the line for the Terriers, that is something they ought to be confident of exploiting.

It seems therefore, that for the first time in a long time, Huddersfield Town fans can go into a game feeling that the momentum is in their favour.

Considering how long it has taken them to get into that position, and what they stand to lose if it turns against them again, that is something they will be desperate not to give up.
