Huddersfield fans can finally afford to show some optimism in recent weeks following the appointment of the Cowley brothers, as the Terriers managed to secure back to back wins against Hull and Stoke – taking them up to 21st and out of the relegation zone.

The West Yorkshire based club could not have got off to a worse start to the season prior to the arrival of the Cowley's, losing to the likes of Reading and Luton in their opening few matches and conceding 11 goals in their first 6 league games.

Perhaps one of the reasons why the Cowley's were targeted by Huddersfield was that their Lincoln side knocked them out of the first round of the League Cup earlier in the campaign, winning by a goal to nil. They would have likely been high on the shortlist to start with but this may have cemented the idea in the minds of the Huddersfield hierarchy.

Some thought that the appointment could prove to be too big a step, too soon for the brothers, however, the wins were Huddersfield’s first of the season coupled with their first two clean sheets. The Terriers have collected 7 of their 8 league points from the last three games, showing the impact the Cowley’s have made since their appointment and with Blackburn (14th), Middlesbrough (20th) and Barnsley (23rd) to play in their next three games, fans must be hopeful of getting more points on the board and moving up the table.

Whilst Huddersfield’s fortunes appear to be on the up, they can afford to feel a little smug about themselves for securing two of the best managerial prospects in football in the Cowley brothers. Especially as they see other clubs part ways with their managers and begin the search for suitable replacements. Sunderland, Barnsley and Millwall have all begun the search for new contenders and in an ever more competitive environment it is tricky to find the right people for the job.

The Cowley's gained significant recognition for their time in charge of Lincoln City, where they had a 53.3% win rate, whilst taking the club from the National League to League One in just three seasons at the club - Huddersfield fans will be excited by the prospect of life under the new managerial regime at the club.

In a way, Terriers fans can be pleased about their early disappointment as it means that they can hopefully push on for the rest of the season with as little controversy and instability as possible. As a result, they can be happy with how their prospects for the future look and can afford to allow themselves a small chuckle as other clubs battle it out to find a new manager.
