Huddersfield considering deal for midfielder after release from Championship club

Huddersfield Town have taken midfielder Connor Malley on trial for their B-team, a report from Teesside Live has revealed.

Malley is currently a free agent, having been released by the Terriers’ Championship rivals Middlesbrough following the expiry of his contract earlier this summer.

The 22-year-old spent the last six years with ‘Boro, but only ever managed four first-team appearances for the club.

Are these 20 statements about former Huddersfield Town players true or false?

Indeed, Malley spent the final months of last season on loan at Gateshead, helping the club win promotion to the National League.

However, it now seems a move to Huddersfield could be on the cards, with this latest update revealing that Malley is on trial with the Terriers’ reserve team.

It is thought that the midfielder has already featured in two friendly games for Huddersfield B-team, as he bids to earn a new contract for next season.

Should Malley secure a contract with Huddersfield, it is understood that he would initially be playing for the club’s B-team, rather than going straight into contention for Carlos Corberan’s senior side.

The Verdict

This does feel like a rather big opportunity for Malley if he can secure a deal with Huddersfield.

While he may initially be linking up with their B-team if signed, that does not mean he could not make the step up to senior level with the Terriers at some point in the future.

Given he is still only 22-years-old, he does have plenty of time remaining in his career to make the improvements he needs to make that switch, and ensure he can continue playing at Championship level.

As a result, you feel he will be doing all he can to impress during these friendly run-outs with the Terriers, and it will be interesting to see how successful he proves with those efforts.
