Huddersfield have completed the signing of midfielder Reece Brown who has joined the club on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Forest Green Rovers.

The 23-year-old had been one of the outstanding performers in League Two last season, scoring 11 and providing 15 assists as Mark Cooper's side reached the play-offs.

However, his contract was expiring so Rovers knew they had little chance of retaining Brown moving forward, particularly when they lost in the play-offs to Tranmere.

And, the Terriers confirmed on their website this afternoon that they had won the race to land the former Birmingham player, who had been attracting interest from Leeds United along with other Championship sides.

Even though the youngster was out of contract, the fourth-tier side would have been entitled to compensation given Brown's age, but an agreement has been reached between the clubs to ensure a tribunal is not needed.

The technically gifted midfielder is the latest new signing for Jan Siewert who brought in experienced centre-back Tommy Elphick on Saturday as he looks to reshape his squad following relegation.

The Verdict

This is a fantastic bit of business for Huddersfield and it will be very interesting to see how Brown handles the step up to the Championship.

It's clear from his productivity last season that he is too good to be playing in the lower leagues so he will see this as a great opportunity to show his talent on a bigger stage.

In terms of the Terriers, Brown will bring a touch of class and creativity to the side that was badly lacking last season.

So, it's a good deal all round and the fact that Leeds and Bristol City were keen on the player means this should represent something of a coup for the recently relegated side.
