Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell says speculation over star strikers Nahki Wells and James Vaughan is inevitable this summer.

Powell feels it is inevitable that there will be speculation about Wells and Vaughan

Nahki Wells arrived from Bradford City in 2013 for a club record fee of £1.3 million and scored 14 goals last year.

James Vaughan sealed a permanent move from Norwich in 2013 following a loan spell and only scored twice last year following niggling injury woes.

Chris Powell wants to keep his stars at the John Smiths Stadium for next season as they look to push on from lower mid-table obscurity, and he told the Huddersfield Examiner: “There will always be speculation over good players.

“Nahki was our top scorer last season (with 14 goals), and James is going into the last year of his contract, which seems to be enough to create rumours these days.

“There are very few clubs around who can afford to turn down top offers for players.

“But we don’t need to sell to survive, I want to keep all our current players, and I am planning on having them.

“And I think there is more to come from all my players.

“I’m confident Nahki can develop further after his first full season at Championship level.

“I’m looking for him to score more goals and win us more matches.

“We managed to keep Vaughany fit for a good spell last season, and he got some vital goals, and we need that to continue.”

Huddersfield endured a decent campaign last year, in one of the most uneventful and average seasons in the Championship.

Chris Powell's men ended up in 17th place, and managed scalps against the likes of Wolves, Watford and Brentford.

They completed their first summer signing this week after completing a deal for former Middlesbrough midfielder Dean Whitehead.
