As last season drew to a close, the primary emotion surrounding Norwich City was one of disappointment following another sub-par campaign.

Daniel Farke guided the Canaries to a disappointing 14th place finish leaving fans not knowing what to expect for the coming year.

Midway through that ultimately disappointing season, a deal was struck with one of the club's summer signings, however.

Centre-back Christoph Zimmermann was signed from Borussia Dortmund II on a free-transfer and had done enough in his short time at the club to convince Farke that he deserved a new deal.

After a rocky opening to the season, the initial response from fans was mixed. Some felt it was an odd decision given he had only arrived in the summer and was not deserving of the deal.

Others, though, felt they saw something in the striker and were delighted to see him sign:

It is safe to say that it was a very wise decision.

Whilst he continued to improve over the course of last season, it is during the current campaign that he has truly impressed, stepping up to become one of the club's most important players.

With compatriot and centre-back partner Timm Klose suffering with injuries, it has been left with Zimmermann to marshall the back-line and he has done so exceptionally.

27 appearances alongside often make-shift partners have made the 26-year-old one of Farke's best players and proving those that doubted the contract decision very wrong indeed.
