Rangers have recently been linked with a move for Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean according to the Scottish Sun.
It is claimed that the Gers are keen on signing him either on a loan, or a pre-contract deal. McLean has made eight appearances for Norwich this season, as they look to make a swift return to the Premier League under the management of Daniel Farke.
But it remains to be seen as to whether McLean will remain a Norwich player heading towards the January transfer window, with the Gers keen on a deal to land his signature.
Rangers are currently sat top of the Scottish Premiership, and are nine points clear of arch rivals Celtic, as they look to end the Bhoys’ impressive run of league titles in recent years.
Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Celtic forward Frank McAvennie issued his thoughts on the potential signing of McLean, and was slightly concerned over the cost of any potential deal for the Gers.
“He would be a great signing for Rangers,
“If Rangers wanted him why did they not take him from Aberdeen? I just do not get why teams up here make these mistakes, like Celtic and McGinn.
“He is doing very well in England. He is a tidy player but he must be on decent money now. I do not know if that is something that can be done.”
McAvennie went on to question whether McLean would get the regular game time he wants to with Steven Gerrard’s side this season, and felt as though the Scotsman wouldn’t want to sign for the club if he wasn’t a regular starter.
“How would he fit in? He is not going to take Jack’s place and he is not going to take Aribo’s. He might have to be a squad player and I do not think Kenny would want to go to Ibrox and get rotated. It is a strange one. He is a wonderful player but who is he going to replace?”
“Rangers are playing well at the moment and even Arfield is not getting a game every week. McLean will not come up to the goldfish bowl of Glasgow to sit on the bench, that is for sure.”
McLean and his Norwich City team-mates are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on an in-form Middlesbrough side on Saturday.

I still think he’ll be tempted by a move to Ibrox.
Rangers are a huge club in terms of stature, and if McLean isn’t getting regular game time with Norwich, then you have to imagine that he’d be keen for a fresh challenge elsewhere.
I’m not sure he’d be a regular starter with Rangers though, although he strikes me as the sort of player that is more than capable of forcing his way into Steven Gerrard’s plans for the starting XI.
An interesting few months await McLean and Rangers, as the Scottish giants look to get this deal over the line.
