Manchester City are competing to win the Premier League and Champions League this season, which isn't a surprise when you consider the quality Pep Guardiola has at his disposal.

However, the talent at City goes beyond the first-team, with the club known in recent years for having a brilliant academy as well.

Phil Foden is the obvious success story, but whilst others won't necessarily make the grade at the club, there are many who still go on to have fantastic careers.

As you would expect, City send many of their academy lads out on loan to experience football in a competitive environment, and it's been no different this season, as plenty are playing in the Football League.

And, here we look at FIVE high-profile youngster who made temporary moves and we assess how the move has gone...

Gavin Bazunu

The 20-year-old keeper is extremely highly-rated and has already forced his way into the Ireland team as number one.

That is partly down to the form he has shown with Portsmouth, who is currently on loan with. Even though it's been a disappointing season for Danny Cowley's side, the stopper has certainly enhanced his reputation.

The Pompey boss has heaped plenty of praise on Bazunu, highlighting his superb mentality as well as natural ability.

Bazunu is obviously not going to overtake Ederson yet, or even make the number two position his own, so it will be interesting to see where he goes next, with Sheffield United said to be admirers.

Callum Doyle

The centre-back joined Sunderland on loan for the campaign and was thrown straight into the XI by Lee Johnson.

For a 17-year-old, it was a major test and initially he was hugely impressive, both with how he coped with the physicality that came with playing in the third tier and how he brought the ball out for the team.

There's no denying that things got tougher for Doyle as the season progressed, and Alex Neil hasn't always turned to the teenager, but it will still have been a year that has helped him significantly.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis

Another centre-back, the England youth international has been known about for some time, having previously had spells with Blackburn and Anderlecht.

Now at Stoke, Harwood-Bellis has done well for Michael O'Neill's men in recent months, bringing more of a stability to the team. Plus, playing alongside the experienced Phil Jagielka is sure to have helped his game.

It remains to be seen where he is playing his football next season, although a Premier League loan wouldn't be a surprise.

Tommy Doyle

The midfielder has been on the fringes of the City team in the past, so there was a lot of excitement when he linked up with Cardiff.

And, it's fair to say that Doyle hasn't disappointed. He has brought a quality to the team with his ability on the ball, scoring two goals and registering three assists since arriving.

Steve Morison has made it clear he wants the player back and talks have taken place. It may be a tough deal for Cardiff to do but the chance to get regular football is going to appeal to the 20-year-old.

Morgan Rogers

This is undoubtedly the one deal that hasn't worked out for a City youngster, with Rogers having joined Bournemouth but he is now out of the picture.

The 19-year-old had hoped to become an important part of Scott Parker's side but the fierce competition for places meant he failed to nail down a place.

A busy January window, with further additions, means Rogers is no longer part of the squad and it will feel like a wasted year for the attacking midfielder, who City paid around £4m for from West Brom a few years back.
