How Sheffield United’s XI could look at the end of the January transfer window

Sheffield United are certainly justifying their pre-season promotion credentials, and they will be . areal threat to their rivals for the remainder of this year’s campaign.

The Blades are currently sat 3rd in the Championship table, and will be confident of closing the gap on league-leaders, Leeds United in the near future.

Chris Wilder has already made additions to his squad this month, with Kieran Dowell and Gary Madine both arriving to bolster his options.

But how can we expect Sheffield United to line-up when the January transfer window closes?

Find out below….

It’s difficult to see Chris Wilder wanting to make major changes to his side this month as they are already in a strong position to finish in the top six.

The defence certainly isn’t likely to see any new additions, as the they have been in excellent form this season and are sure to be the first names on the team-sheet.

However, in the midfield, there is area for improvement, and Wilder has already acknowledged this by signing Kieran Dowell on loan until the end of the season.

That leaves Sheffield United with two creative midfielders who can support the front two of Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick.

But he could be in the market to sign a more defence minded midfielder, and that could come in Everton’s James McCarthy who could be available on loan.

It has already been reported that West Brom are eyeing a swoop for him, so the Blades should definitely be rivalling them for his signature as he’s exactly what they are missing in the midfield.

This Sheffield United side are good enough to challenge for the Championship title, and if they can build on some recent good form, then they will be a real threat to the top two this season.
