In what has been a season where emotions have been given the full run around at QPR, the R’s still possess the slimmest of chances of securing a top-six finish.
For much of this Championship campaign, a play-off finish seemed very likely, however, a drop-off in recent form has seen them slip away.
Sitting in 11th and six points off Sheffield United in sixth, the R’s need to win both games and hope the Blades lose both of their matches, whilst also hoping for a 10-goal swing.
Interestingly enough, it is the Yorkshire club who travel to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium next.
Whilst we wait and see what happens in what remains of QPR’s campaign, we take a look at attendance figures from recent seasons and see if we can spot any trends…
The impact of Covid-19
Whilst several clubs have seen a drop off in attendances as a result of Covid-19, with the pandemic impacting people’s inclination of attending sports events, QPR have actually seen their average figures increase.
QPR quiz: Does the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium have a bigger or smaller capacity than these 20 stadiums?
Up until the pandemic hit in the 2019/20 season, QPR possessed the 19th-highest average attendance in the Championship (13,721), whilst this season, it stands at 14,373 (14th-highest in the division).
Looking at attendance figures from the 2019/20 season compared to this campaign as a whole, it is clear to see that numbers have fallen, however, the Championship have lost some big-hitters in that time.
Numbers have stayed pretty consistent throughout the season
There is no real clear difference when assessing the attendances QPR have seen over the course of this season, with no clear pattern emerging.
QPR have seen some of their highest attendances amidst the difficult patch of form, whilst their lowest recorded attendance came during their excellent November.
The theme experienced during this season can be seen when looking into other campaigns too, with there being little deviance in average attendance figures over the last five seasons, bar last season where Covid prevented fans from attending stadia.
