Preston North End had a good first season under the management of Ryan Lowe this season and were able to gain a 13th placed finish in the Championship.

However, after a solid season this year, Lowe will be looking for his team to progress further next season and aim to push up the league towards the play-offs.

To make that happen, though, Preston will need to get their business right during this summer transfer window.

Although there have been some bright sparks in the Preston side this season, additions will be needed to reach the next level. Any additions the Lilywhites are looking to make have to be the right ones for the team and have to be able to add something to the side.

With that in mind, here we take a look at how Preston North End might be able to get the most out of the transfer window in seven steps.

As it stands, progressing into next season Preston don't look to have any goalkeepers on their books.

Daniel Iversen has been in on loan from Leicester City this season and has made 46 appearances for the Lilywhites, whilst Connor Ripley hasn't made any appearances this season and is out of contract this summer.

Ryan Lowe has already admitted they're unlikely to see Inversen return to Preston next season meaning they are looking for a new number one.

Preston have been linked with Hull City's Matt Ingram who, after falling out of favour to Chelsea loanee Nathan Baxter, went on an emergency loan to Luton Town and ended up playing for them in the play-offs.

It's unknown whether the Tigers would be able to get Baxter back again next season but you can’t imagine Ingram will be keen to sit on the bench, therefore making a move possibly favourable to him.

Luton are also reported to be interested in the keeper, so Preston may face competition but if he's being signed as a number one, it could help their case to sign him.

Cameron Archer has been on loan with Ryan Lowe's side since January and since joining he has scored seven goals in 20 appearances.

The 20-year-old has become a popular figure this season and his performances have been impressive.

Steven Gerrard is keen to see how the young player does in pre-season with his parent club but seen as he's friends with Ryan Lowe, if he feels another loan move is the right thing for the player then Preston could find themselves getting their player back for a full season this time around.

Although Preston will be hoping Archer can stay, they still need to be looking at possible strikers.

On the whole, Preston haven't scored enough goals this season. Emil Riis has had an outstanding season contributing 20 goals but behind him is Daniel Johnson, who isn't even an out and out striker, having scored eight goals.

Therefore, Preston will need to be looking at possible options for a goalscorer who is able to add to Riis’ game and get the some more goals in the side regardless of whether or not Archer comes back for another season.

Despite starting in Preston's first 14 matches of the season this year, Jordan Storey was sent out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday in January.

Since Ryan Lowe came in as manager, Storey struggled for regular game time with Sepp van den Berg being preferred in defence instead.

Although van den Berg is out of contract this summer, Lowe will be hoping to extend his stay at Deepdale, meaning Storey won't be looking at game time next season.

Since going to Wednesday, Storey has started in every game but two of them and has a big part to play in their play-off push.

Therefore, Preston could be hoping Wednesday want to take the player off their hands.

According to a report from TWTD, Preston are interested in the signing of Bersant Celina.

Celina has been on loan with Ipswich Town this season from Dijon and has done well.

He was able to score six goals and provide six assists in 32 appearances for the Tractor Boys this term.

The 25-year-old has plenty of experience in English football having come through Manchester City's academy and also played for Swansea City.

Preston are likely to face competition for his signature but, with his age, he still has plenty of time to grow under Ryan Lowe at a higher level and would be a solid signing for the Lilywhites.

Lowe is keen on playing with wing-backs and wanting speed down the sides from those players.

However, on the left this season Josh Earl has failed to impress Ryan Lowe and Greg Cunningham has faced fitness issues which are only likely to get worse given he is 31-years-old.

Therefore, Preston could do with looking for someone new to take the left wing-back space in the squad and allow Lowe's team to play the way he wants them to.

22-year-old Ali McCann has been given the opportunity to play this season having made 28 appearances and scored one goal.

The young midfielder has settled into the Championship well but starting 16 games this season will leave Lowe with the decision of what's best for his development next season.

The boss will no doubt be keen to watch him over pre-season before making a decision of whether he will get regular Championship game time or whether he wants to loan him out for a season before giving that to him.
