Former Birmingham City striker Mikael Forssell turned 37 today, with the club taking the opportunity to wish him many happy returns on his big day.

Forssell is something of a legend at St Andrews, having made just under 120 appearances, scoring 37 times. He arrived from Chelsea in a deal worth £3m after a couple of loan spells with the club. He once bagged a hat trick as the Blues hammered Spurs 4-1 and is still held in high esteem at St Andrews.

The Finnish international was as prolific for his country as he was in club football, scoring 29 times in 87 appearances. He's still in the game, joining HIFK Helsinki in his homeland after a spell at VFL Bochum in Germany.

Birmingham took time out from plotting a course out of the relegation zone to wish him a happy birthday, tweeting "Happy Birthday to former striker @MikaelForssell who turns 37 today."

The striker responded with a message of appreciation: "Thank you so much."

Blues fans were quick to react on Twitter, keen to pay tribute to a striker some feel could still do a job at the struggling side.
