Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen has said that former striker Chris Wood was too isolated up front last season, and Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay has described the comments as ‘interesting’ on Twitter.

The Dane’s remarks will surely be interpreted by some as criticism towards former manager Garry Monk, with Christiansen seemingly of the belief that the squad was not utilised in the correct manner.

Wood scored 27 goals in the league as Leeds just missed out on a place in the top-six following a dismal spell of form in the latter stages of the campaign, and moved on to the Premier League with Burnley this summer in a near £15 million deal.

Christiansen has overhauled the squad he inherited from Monk, bringing in a number of new faces from across the continent as he attempts to guide the Whites to the top flight at the first time of asking.

Leeds sit top of the table after seven games, having won five and drawn twice.
