Luton Town will be eager to respond well following play-off heartbreak at Huddersfield Town, signing off after what has been an incredible season of progression.

The Hatters, who do not possess the finances of their top-end competing counterparts, managed a sixth-placed finish, before being edged out by the Terriers on Monday night.

Revealing on Monday that he knows the targets that he wants to pursue this summer, and stating that he would be ready to recruit imminently, Jones appears to be targeting a summer similar to the last, whereby the Hatters completed their business early, spending the remaining weeks bedding in those new recruits.

However, it remains to be seen if that will be the case and if the process will prove to be as smooth as this time last year.

Here, we take a look at how the Hatters could have the perfect summer transfer window in seven steps...

Whilst Luton do not rely on individual brilliance, they are a side who have seen some players reach some extreme heights this season, with Elijah Adebayo certainly fitting that category.

The 24-year-old's physicality and attacking intelligence have caused all sorts of chaos this season, whilst he has also proven to be an excellent dribbler who can progress up the pitch.

Scoring 16 Championship goals in 40 fixtures, he has emerged a vital part of Jones' side this year.

Kal Naismith also fits that aforementioned bracket of player who has consistently performed to a very high-level, and subsequently, he has caught the eye of a several clubs, including West Brom and Norwich.

Possessing a wand of a left foot, and a real sense of composure, Naismith has made the left centre-back position his own during the course of the campaign.

A versatile option also, Naismith ticks a lot of boxes, however, the project at Luton is an exciting one to be a part of.

Allan Campbell enjoyed an excellent debut season in English football, adapting to the rigours of the Championship seamlessly in Luton's colours.

The Scottish midfielder added a noticeable difference when the Hatters were out of possession, with his relentless nature and tenacity causing problems for opposing midfields and defences.

As the season progressed, he displayed more and more confidence when in possession, carrying the ball forward excellently, whilst also chipping in with some well-taken goals from range.

Adding a number one is an important step for the Hatters to take, and whilst there is no doubting the ability shown by James Shea over the course of the season, his injury means it is unlikely that he will be fit for the early start to the new campaign.

Football Insider have reported that the Hatters are interested in another move for Matt Ingram, whilst the future of Jed Steer is yet to be determined.

It will be interesting to see what kind of route Luton go down with a goalkeeping addition.

Luton certainly possess creativity in the midfield in the form of Jordan Clark, Luke Berry and Robert Snodgrass, but considering the first two have spent a large part of the season injured, and the latter sees his contract expire next month, this is an area they should address.

Adding a creative spark who can commit defenders with direct running could be the avenue to go down.

The Hatters have previously been linked with the likes of Scott Twine and Elliot Anderson, two players who would fit the bill but could be too difficult to attract to Kenilworth Road.

Amari'i Bell has enjoyed an excellent first season at Kenilworth Road and should go into the next campaign as the club's first-choice left wing-back.

However, he appears to be the only out-and-out option the club have in that position, when considering that Dan Potts and Kal Naismith are both better to other roles.

This could pave the way for the Hatters to search the market for a more youthful option to immediately cover him, with the long-term view of that player providing competition.

Data driven recruitment is becoming an increasingly common theme in football, and whilst the Hatters have typically done well in transfer windows, the arrival of Jay Socik has seen the club hit new heights when it comes to their arrivals.

Growing a reputation for being smart in transfer markets, much of that appears to be through the excellent work of Socik.

As big as any signing would be, keeping hold of Socik would be a massive boost for the Hatters, especially when considering the excitement around this transfer window.
