Oldham Athletic have announced they'll host near-neighbours Rochdale in a pre-season friendly this summer.

The Latics have recently appointed a new manager, Laurent Banide, as they hope to launch an assault on the top seven this season.

A fractured first year in the basement division saw three managers leave, Frankie Bunn, Paul Scholes and Pete Wild. That lack of stability derailed any chance of a promotion push, but with the former Monaco boss in charge they're hoping to correct that.

They're yet to make any serious moves in the transfer market, but it does seem centre back George Edmundson could be on his way in the near future. Part of their pre-season planning will be replacing the 21-year-old.

Those preparations will also include a visit from League One Rochdale, who were considered the smaller club of the two for many years. They're now a division above Oldham, but that hasn't stopped Latics supporters leaving vitriolic messages on the club's official Twitter announcement.

The two sides will meet on Saturday, July 20th at Boundary Park but, if the replies are anything to go by, it isn't going to be a big draw for the long-suffering Latics' fans.
