It has been a slow transfer window so far for Leeds United, with the Whites still waiting to make their first move to strengthen their squad this January.

Leeds lost loanees Eddie Nketiah and Jack Clarke at the start of the month, with both recalled by their parent-clubs after limited game-time in the opening half of the season.

An Nketiah replacement up-front seems the priority, with Leeds having irons in the fire as they look to add the firepower needed to get them over the line in the race for promotion.

Additionally, someone to come in and replace Clarke would be a positive move, allowing Marcelo Bielsa to operate with similar numbers he requested at the start of the season.

So, if everything goes to plan, what could Leeds’ side look like from February onwards?

We take a look…

In goal will be Kiko Casilla, with the Spaniard firmly Bielsa’s No.1, despite an FA charge hanging over his head after an alleged racially aggravated comment towards Jonathan Leko.

Bielsa is looking to add a goalkeeper in the form of Elia Caprile, but the 18-year-old is likely to be playing under-23 football to begin with and Illan Meslier will serve an alternative to Casilla, should he be hit with his expected ban.

The defence, which looked untouchable for much of the first-half of the season, will retain current personnel; Luke Ayling at right-back and a centre-back partnership of Ben White and Liam Cooper.

Given the current struggles of Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas at left-back, Bielsa might consider shifting Stuart Dallas into a more defensive role. The Northern Irishman has had an extended run in midfield, but his best football has come from full-back.

Kalvin Phillips will shield that defence, whilst Mateusz Klich is sure to continue regularly in an advanced midfield position. Alongside that duo in the midfield axis should be Pablo Hernandez, playing in his preferred position and pulling the strings.

Finally, we come onto a new addition on the right in the form of Ian Poveda.

Poveda is with Manchester City at this moment in time, but looks like he will be on the move this January. Leeds have talks planned with the 19-year-old, who looks like the ideal Clarke replacement in the squad.

Whether he will start over Helder Costa remains to be seen, but he undoubtedly adds depth to Bielsa’s options out wide.

Jack Harrison has 11 goal involvements from the left and it is looking unlikely he’d be the man to make way for Poveda, retaining his place ahead of Dallas in this set-up.

QUIZ: Can you name these 18 ex-Leeds United players?

Now, we come onto the crucial signing Leeds have to make this winter: a striker.

Patrick Bamford has 10 goals to his name this season, but now finds himself as Leeds’ only recognised striker.

Che Adams is the striker that Bielsa wants, and although Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is standing firm over his man, Leeds have been trying to convince them into a deal.

Should Adams, 23, arrive, he would bring a clinical edge to the side. He struck 22 goals last season for Birmingham City in the Championship and is better suited to the division that Nketiah was.

Should he arrive, he would challenge Bamford for a starting berth and, to many, would be the difference in the automatic promotion race.
