Born in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, France, Yohan Benalouane spent some time progressing at youth level with FC Tricastin and Racing Blondel Bollène, before finishing his youth career with Saint-Etienne.

Spending two years with the club's reserves, Benalouane made his first appearance at first-team level in 2007, spending three years with the club before departing for Italy in 2010.

The Frenchman joined Serie A club Cesena for an undisclosed fee that summer, going on to feature 26 times.

Joining the club's divisional rivals in Parma in 2012, the centre-back proceeded to play 25 times for the Italian outfit.

During his time with Parma, he embarked on two loan spells with Atalanta, going on to play just shy of 50 games for the side who now regularly feature in European competitions.

A move to the Premier League then followed his spells in Italy, with Benalouane joining Leicester City, during the year that they defied all expectations to win the league.

However, he struggled for regular football during his time with The Foxes, departing for Nottingham Forest in January 2019.

In just over 18 months with Forest, with very limited first-team opportunities, the vastly experienced defender joined Greek Super League outfit Aris.

In the 2020/21 campaign, Benalouane's side finished in second place, with the defender featuring 14 times.

This season, he is yet to make a league appearance for the Greek outfit, with his only two games coming in the Uefa Europa Conference League Qualifiers.
