In the summer of 2015, Stoke City dominated the headlines of the back pages across the country after signing Xherdan Shaqiri for a fee of £12m.

The Swiss winger had established himself as one of the most exciting wide-men in the planet, playing in the UEFA Champions League for European giants Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

But with Stoke pushing for a place in Europe, the Potters managed to lure Shaqiri to the bet365 Stadium, and on his debut, he registered his first assist in a Stoke shirt against Norwich.

Stoke narrowly missed out on a place in the top six in the 2015/16 campaign, with Shaqiri playing 32 times in the 2015/16 campaign.

But as time went on, Stoke struggled and struggled, and the Potters were eventually relegated from the top-flight in the 2017/18 season.

Shaqiri scored eight goals in the Premier League in 17/18, but despite being unable to prevent them from falling into the Championship, he secured a move to one of the world's biggest clubs.

Liverpool came calling for Shaqiri, and they acquired his services on a year deal after activating his release clause of £13m.

Shaqiri has since made 34 appearances for the Reds, scoring six goals and helping them win the Champions League last term.

Liverpool obviously came so close to winning the Premier League for the first time in their history last term, but thus far this season, he has played only four times in all competitions.

It has been hard for him to break into Jurgen Klopp's side ahead of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, but he has been an important player when called upon.

Stoke fans will remember his time in Staffordshire fondly.
