Rod Fanni ended up at Charlton Athletic on loan from Al Arabi for the second half of the 2015/16 season and the former France international put in some impressive displays in the Addicks' Championship relegation battle.

After his loan ended Fanni rejoined Marseille from Al Arabi on a free transfer and made 32 appearances for OM in 2016/17. Following that campaign the Frenchman left Marseille two shy of 200 appearances for the club and joined MLS franchise Montreal Impact.

Fanni made 47 appearances for the Impact before finally hanging up his boots in January this year the age of 39. Charlton Athletic sticks out like a saw thumb when looking back at Fanni's career, after 362 French top-flight appearances and 12 in the Champions League many players might venture to Qatar or the USA in the twilight of their career.

Fanni's appetite for a Championship relegation battle came out of nowhere and his 14 appearances in SE7 will not be forgotten in a hurry. He kept four clean sheets in that time and established an understanding with Portuguese no nonsense defender Jorge Teixeira.

It remains unclear if Fanni has any plans to remain in the footballing world post-retirement but one thing that is abundantly clear is he had a playing career to proud of. Ending it with three honours, winning the now defunct Coupe De La Ligue in 2010/11 and 2011/12 and the Trophee Des Champions in 2011 with Marseille.
