Lincoln City eventually won the race to sign Leeds United midfielder, Robbie Gotts, over the summer, with Michael Appleton’s side swooping to secure his service towards the end of the domestic window.
Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League opened up loan opportunities for a host of players at Elland Road, with Alfie McCalmont and Jordan Stevens a couple of players to take the plunge before Gotts.
The 20-year-old had plenty of clubs chasing his signature, but for a while it looked like Leeds might keep him around given Marcelo Bielsa’s admiration of the midfielder.
However, Lincoln eventually got the deal over the line.
How’s he getting on?
After just three appearances in the Leeds first-team, the expectancy was that Gotts would get games out on loan.
However, so far, he’s not featured for Lincoln, who are going great guns in League One.
Appleton’s side sit top of the table after nine fixtures, having picked up 22 points. They’ve won seven times, drawn once and lost once.
Gotts was an unused substitute in the 0-0 draw with Fleetwood Town on the back of signing, with Appleton including the midfielder in his matchday squad in the three victories that followed.
However, as Lincoln beat Plymouth, Ipswich and Crewe, Gotts’ wait for an Imps debut has gone on and he’s remained and unused substitute.
Lincoln are next in action on Saturday when they take on Doncaster Rovers. Gotts will be hoping for his first appearance against the South Yorkshire side.
