Queens Park Rangers’ forward Paul Smyth joined League One side Wycombe Wanderers at the start of the season, but how’s he doing in Buckinghamshire?

Paul Smyth arrived in West London from Northern Irish team Linfield in 2017.

He was a highly-rated youngster in his home country, and QPR fans were excited then 19-year-old Smyth in action.

A debut goal against Cardiff City made him an instant hit, and he picked up the Supporter’s Young Player of the Year award in the 2017/18 despite only making his debut in January.

As managers have moved on at QPR, Smyth has found himself struggling for game-time at Loftus Road.

Accrington Stanley took Smyth on loan last season and the Northern Irishman impressed, leading to Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth to bring him in for this season.

Wanderers are flying-high in League One, despite speculation surrounding Ainsworth's future throughout the season.

He gave Smyth his Wanderers debut on the opening day of the season and he repaid him with the opening goal in their 2-0 win against Bolton Wanderers.

Smyth played a couple more games for the club, but hasn’t featured in the team-sheet since mid-August with an ankle injury.

He’s expected to return early next month, having missed the last nine games in League One for Wycombe.

His return will be a huge boost for Ainsworth and his side's unprecedented promotion push this season, and Smyth will be hungry to get back and show the fans what he's capable of.
