German defender Michael Hefele joined Huddersfield Town back in the summer of 2016, and instantly wrote himself into Terriers history.

The 29-year-old scored 26 seconds after coming off the bench for his debut in Town's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa back in August 2016.

The centre-back would also write himself into more Town folklore when he bagged an 89th minute winner against West Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in February 2017.

The 2016-2017 season would be memorable for both Hefele and everyone associated with Town as the Terriers were promoted to the Premier League for the first time in their history.

Despite Hefele missing his penalty in the play-off final shoot-out, Town defeated Reading 4-3 on penalties to be promoted to the first tier of English football for the first time since 1972.

Hefele only managed two appearances during Town's maiden season in the Premier League, with his season being blighted by first an achilles injury, followed by a knee injury.

Following Town's first season in the Premier League, Hefele swapped West Yorkshire for the East Midlands when he joined Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2018.

Hefele would manage just 15 league appearances for the Reds last term before a second achilles injury in January ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The injury has meant that Hefele hasn't turned out for Sabri Lamouchi's Reds yet this term, but the Frenchman did insist he has been impressed with the German since his return to training at the end of November.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post, Lamouchi said: "I am so impressed because he was out for many, many months - not quite a year, he is very positive inside the dressing room."

Forest have enjoyed a good start to the season and only sit a point outside the top-six having recorded some impressive victories so far this term, including a 4-0 thrashing of QPR and a 3-2 victory at Stoke City.

Now back in training, Hefele will be hoping to be match fit soon in order to help Forest secure up their defence which has conceded eight goals in their last four matches.

Hefele may have only managed one full season at Huddersfield Town, and if it wasn't for injuries he may have managed a lot more, but the German will be fondly remembered for his debut goal and his winner against Leeds.

Town fans should have no animosity towards the German and he shouldn't towards Town, unfortunate injuries have hampered his time in England, but he after turning out 37 times for Town during their promotion season, he will always be welcome at the John Smith's Stadium.
