This season was always going to be a hugely important one in the long-term development of Huddersfield Town midfielder Matty Daly with him allowed to leave the Terriers on loan to get some first team experience.

Huddersfield made the decision in the summer transfer window to allow Daly to make the move to newly-promoted Hartlepool United as they prepared for life back in the Football League after earning promotion from the National League via the play-offs last term.

It was hoped that Daly would be able to go into Hartlepool's side and highlight his potential by showing consistent form and establishing himself as one of their most important players in the middle of the park on their return to League Two.

So far, Daly has been able to live up to those hopes with the midfielder having enjoyed a strong start to his loan spell with Hartlepool in the fourth tier. He has so far been able to show that he can get forwards in support of attacks and have an end product with him scoring five goals in 13 starts for his loan club making him their top scorer so far this term.

Daly though has scored four of his goals this season for Hartlepool in the Papa John's Trophy with only one league goal having been registered so far which came during a win against Harrogate Town to clinch all three points for his loan club last month.

Overall, Daly has been able to average 0.8 shots and 0.8 key passes per game in his 12 League Two appearances this term. That shows he is a player that can make things happen in the middle of the park in terms of both chance creation and not being afraid to get shots off in and around the box.

While Daly has also been able to make 1.1 tackles and also win an average of three duels per game in the fourth tier this term to show that he is willing to so the defensive side of the game as well for his side.

The midfielder showed the kind of creative quality he can bring to the table for Hartlepool at the weekend with him supplying two assists as they managed to hold League One Wycombe Wanderers to a draw in the first round of the FA Cup.

Following that performance against Wycombe, Hartlepool's interim manager Anthony Sweeney piled praise on the midfielder. He also suggested that he has responded well to be asked to deliver a little more end product for the League Two side.

It seems then that Daly's loan spell with Hartlepool is going well so far and the Terriers will now have a decision to make in January regarding their potential recall option on his loan deal. The best thing they could do might be to leave the midfielder where he is for the rest of the campaign and allow him to continue his form.
