Blackpool bought in 10 new faces over the January transfer window but despite this the side have seen an alarming slump in form.

Just one win in their last 10 league games saw Simon Grayson relieved of his duties, with the Seasiders having only nine wins to their name all season.

One of the latest arrivals through the Bloomfield Road doors was 23-year-old left-back Jordan Thorniley who joined the club on a permanent deal from Sheffield Wednesday.

The 23-year-old made 20 league appearances for Wednesday last term and won plaudits from sections of the Owls support, but struggled to make an impression this season, failing to start a single league game for Garry Monk's side.

On the day Thorniley's arrival was announced, the Seasiders sat just two points outside the League One play-offs but now, after five defeats in their following six games they have slipped to 16 points outside the top-six.

Since arriving at Bloomfield Road, Thorniley has only managed two appearances for the club, both coming in 2-1 defeats to Wycombe Wanderers and Oxford United respectively, picking up a booking in the latter.

Although naturally a left-back, Thorniley was deployed as a centre-half in both of his appearances for Blackpool so far, with the Seasiders having no fewer than four left-backs at their disposal.

Either side of these two defeats, the 23-year-old was an unused substitute against Lincoln City and Southend United, the latter being the club's only win in their last 10 games.

Since the Southend game, Thorniley hasn't been involved in Blackpool's matchday squad, missing both Simon Grayson's last game in charge and David Dunn's first fixture as caretaker manager.

Some Wednesday fans were quick to brand Thorniley's move as mistake on their club's part with many expressing their disappointment at the time of the news.

It appears that Thorniley has struggled to get ahead of the likes of James Husband in the Blackpool side, but will be encouraged by his two recent appearances.

Should Blackpool make the right managerial appointment, they could be well placed for a promotion challenge next term, with Thorniley potentially playing a big role for the Seasiders.
