West Brom have made some shrewd signings over the years and the decision to bring in Jonas Olsson in 2008 has to be one of the best moves they have made.

The centre-back arrived from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen and quickly became a vital player for the club as they managed to establish themselves in the Premier League for much of his nine years.

And, during that period there were many happy memories for all concerned, with the Baggies beating some big teams and Olsson weighing in with crucial goals as well as performing to a high standard.

However, all good things come to an end and a 34-year-old Olsson decided to make a move back to Sweden after losing his place in the team. He linked up with Djurgadens, who he helped to the Swedish Cup.

A very brief spell back in England followed last season, with the left-footer joining Wigan in February and even though they survived in the Championship, Olsson's contribution was brief.

Therefore, it was perhaps no surprise that the defender decided to retire, with an official announcement coming in September.

It put an end to what had been a very good career for the player and whilst he featured for five clubs during his 16 years as a professional, Olsson will be remembered most for his outstanding spell with Albion.

What happens next for the 25-capped Swedish international remains to be seen, with Olsson previously revealing that he wanted to be a lawyer when he hung up his boots.

No matter what he does though, Olsson will always be welcome back at The Hawthorns.
